First order of business... look at my pretty new layout! I got so sick of using that dumb template I just sat down and messed around until I found something I liked. Yarn and pretty pastels, what more could you ask for.
Also on a totally personal note on new things, my father got engaged! I think this calls for some celebration knitting presents! Now only to decide on what I want to knit them. Maybe rings? Kidding haha.
Also I have finalized the list of presents that I am making people this year, I am most excited for two blankets I am planning on knitting. They are inspired by Purl Bee's lap blanket, but alas I am a poor high school student and can nor afford the expensive (though oh so pretty) yarn that is required. I am current debating between two of their alternative yarn selections. I am going to knit two of these so I figure I should pick a yarn at least I like. :D
I mentioned in my last blog about a cowl I was trying to knit. So far it is going okay, but I have learned I need to focus more on knitting while I do it. I tend to space of and suddenly realize I messed something up. One problem I am having with this cowl is that it is the largest piece I have ever made. And so when I am knitting one round I have no idea how much yarn it is going to take. This makes me nervous because I only have two skeins of this yarn and there is no way for me to get more. (darn sales) Any tips out there on how I can figure out and calculate the amount of yarn I need?
Here are some pictures of it so far. 200 something cast on, it is slow going for me.
The good thing about this pattern is that you can make it as thick or thin as you want. So even if you run out of yarn, you can just make it a bit thinner... Another way of figuring it out is, how many yards are in each skein that you have? The one in the example from the pattern had 225 yards each, so from there you can see if you have more (or less) then what the pattern calls for. Your knitting looks great! Keep it up!
