What Two Years Can Do

I figured the best place to start is to explain where I am now! It feels like nothing has changed since I last really blogged and yet I know deep down that so much in my life has changed. I ended up spending two school years being a community advisor on campus (also known as an RA to most people). It was an experience that I would not trade for anything. I learned so much about myself through those two years, I learned about self-care, how to resolve conflict, and how to balance both work and fun. However after two years of that I have decided that it is time for me to try something new. So next school year I will be living off campus with two of my friends.

I have changed majors, changed jobs, changed living situations, and yet I feel like I am more myself now then I have been since I stopped blogging. I am focusing on doing more of what I love and that means coming back to this amazing community.

My brother got married, my dad got re-married, my sister had a baby, and I got a tattoo. I have learned to actually cook, I joined a sorority, I became a member of an executive board, and I learned how to paint canvases.

There are so many more things that have happened over the last two years. I think the most important life update though is that I am learning how important it is that when I say yes to other people I can’t be saying no to myself. I am so excited to rejoin this amazing fiber arts community and share our accomplishments and struggles together.

I promise next post will actually be about my crafting and spinning hobbies. For now though you just get a whole lot about me.
With love,
Zoey

The Start of Something New

Why hello there! Long time no see or I guess for some people out there… if you are out there… hello for the first time.

This blog used to be known as Knit Secret and while that was an amazing time for me it is just not all of who I am anymore. When I thought about starting to blog again I realized I wanted my blog to feel more like me. So I have selfishly decided to name is after myself.

… Also a lot of blogger names are taken …

I have been trying to figure out how to write my not first but kind of first, first post for a while now. Finally I just decided to go for it and we will figure it out as we go together. This blog is still going to be about how I am obsessed with all things fiber related; knitting, spinning, dying etc. etc. but it is also going to be about the other parts that make up who I am. So there are going to be more crafts and lists and posts about what my life actually looks like when I put the knitting needles down.

So thank you for those of you who are still around after my two year hiatus and welcome aboard to all of the new readers out there. (I am just going to pretend that there are oodles of you) I can’t wait to share my adventures and maybe misadventures with you.

With Love, Zoey

Fiber Festival!!!

So way back in May (!!!) I went to a fiber festival with my mom. We went to the Shepard's Harvest Sheep and Wool Festival in Lake Elmo, MN.  It was the first time I had ever been to anything like this, at that point in time I had only ever been gifted fiber or bought it at yarn stores who just had a few braids of fiber here and there. It ended up being rainy the day we went so there was not a lot going on outside but there was so much happening inside the buildings. I had never been around that many people dedicated to fiber arts! I of course tried to sneak home the cutest angora rabbit in the world but my mom caught me.

I did end buying way too much fiber, funny joke, there is never too much fiber. Some of it I spun before I could even get a picture of the actual fiber so here is the fiber I was able to get pictures of before I lost all self control.

There are three more that I bought and have already spun up that I need to take pictures of still. As you can see I completely fell in love at the Hello Purl booth. There stuff is so amazing and the colors in person are completely gorgeous! I am a little nervous to spin these gorgeous batts because I just want the yarn to turn out as gorgeous as the fiber. Any suggestions of spinning ideas would be welcomed!

For my birthday my dad got me a ton of alpaca (it is like a cloud of joy) There are three colors and he got me two braids of each. Seriously it is like a bag full of soft happiness. I am wanting to spin it and maybe make a teddy bear or a cowl. I am so excited about having this much fiber to spin!!

Wait.. Who Are You?

So long time no post! Going to be completely honest here that I hope to start posting again but right now my life is really blessed and busy. I have been working my first year as a community advisor (an RA) on my campus. I underestimated how much time it really would take but I wouldn't trade this job for the world. My staff is a hoot and honestly getting to be a part of these young ladies lives is so amazing!

So the top picture is of my whole staff and I. It was for a building wide program we put on called dress your CA. I ended up as Napoleon Dynamite and my floor partner Jeff was Pedro. We have programs once a week and while most time we are not getting dressed up it is always super fun.

So this picture is from way back on my birthday! I went out to dinner with my mom and when I got back to my floor my residents shuffled me into my room and told me I could not come out for 20 more minutes. When I finally was allowed out of my room they took my to our floor lounge where they had baked me cupcakes and sang to me. They really are the best floor and I am so lucky to end up with such amazing ladies.

I finally brought my spinning wheel to college with me and have been spinning up a storm. I did not realize how much I missed it until I finally had it here with me. It is kind of sad that the second you get busy the first thing to get cut from your schedule is the thing you love. At least that is how it always goes for me. I will hopefully be posting pictures of all of that fluffy stuff later!
